The main content of this site is a report on the results of a series of in-depth interviews that I conducted in the spring of 2009 (you can read the report online by using the links on the right, or download a word document here). The interviews were intended to find the answers to two questions I had set myself as the basis of my PhD. The two questions are: “Why have Indian firms been buying more outsourced IT in recent years?” and “Is this important for India’s economic development? and if so why and how?”

I am fairly convinced that the narrative arising from the interviews comes close to the true answers to these questions. But, as any academic must, I will seek to validate it over the coming months. One way for me to do this is to collect and analyse more data on the constituent parts of the story, and this is something I will be getting on with now that this report is written. Another way to validate the story is to open it up for debate, and it is for this reason, as well as a desire to share valuable information with those who so readily shared with me, that I have marshalled these thoughts onto the site for your consideration.

To that end, I and others who are reading this report would be incredibly grateful for any comments, questions, retorts, clarifications or refutations you feel able and willing to contribute (this site has been designed specifically to accomodate your opinons). I will also keep updating the news page to include any new and relevant data and analysis I come up with as well as other thoughts that you may find interesting. PleaseĀ  feel free to pass on the link to this site to other people that you think may be interested, and do contact me if you would like to discuss anything.

The report unashamedly avoids discussion of economic theories or of academic literature. Although these are things that I am obliged to ponder and pontificate over, I know that they may not be particularly relevant to all of you.
